Building Your Professional Future in a Changing World
General Scenario
Students explore the concept of career development and professional growth through the lens of their future professions. Throughout the module, they examine career opportunities in their field, workplace requirements, employment trends, and professional skills necessary for success in a rapidly changing labour market. By connecting language learning with their academic specializations, students analyse potential career paths, identify professional strengths and challenges, and develop strategies for lifelong learning and career advancement. The module culminates in the creation of a personalized and interdisciplinary career development plan that reflects both individual aspirations and labour market realities.

Essential Question
What makes a person employable today — a degree, experience, skills, connections, adaptability, or the ability to keep learning?
A generation ago, the traditional career model seemed relatively predictable:
education → qualification → first job → experience → promotion → retirement
Today, professi
onal life is considerably less linear.
People:
change employers • change industries • work remotely • freelance • launch businesses • retrain • acquire new qualifications • work internationally • combine several professional roles
At the same time, artificial intelligence, automation and digital transformation are changing what employers expect.
The central challenge is therefore no longer simply:
“How do I get a job?”
It is:
“How do I build professional value that remains relevant when the labour market changes?”
