Professional Responses to Environmental Challenges
Essential Question
Can economic and technological progress continue without compromising the planet we depend on?
Environmental problems are no longer exclusively the responsibility of environmental scientists.
Climate change affects:
public health • infrastructure • agriculture • business • migration • national security • mental health • technology • public administration • local communities
This means that future:
IT specialists • engineers • psychologists • public administrators • social workers • economists • managers
will all need to understand how their professional decisions affect environmental sustainability and how their expertise can contribute to crisis response.
The original module therefore rightly positions students as members of an interdisciplinary environmental-response team and connects professional expertise with real environmental challenges.
